16 U S Planes Downed In Seven Day Losses

AP report from Saigon notes the United States suffered its heaviest seven day air loss total with 16 planes down from Aug 21 to Aug 27. Two Marines listed as missing, 24 total missing for the period, three rescued, as Marines and Air Force units clash with North Vietnamese forces in the north and Mekong Delta.

Viet Cong Plots Sabotage Campaign Against Elections

AP reports U S and South Vietnamese sources say the Viet Cong have planned a nationwide effort to disrupt the presidential vote Sunday through intensified attacks terrorism and propaganda. Over the weekend they launched mortar rocket and artillery strikes across from Quang Tri to the Mekong Delta with a spike in kidnappings murders and sabotage. A captured document urges Da Nang to smash the election and warns failure could spur a political crisis while accusing the United States of burning houses and raising costs and taxes.

Motherhood and a School Board Clash in 1966

Mrs. John Hill, a 42 year old elementary music teacher in Chartiers Valley, was granted a sabbatical with half pay in 1966 and later fired on Monday night for being pregnant. She says she was fired for motherhood, describing the clash between personal life and district policy. The case links a sabbatical, weight gain, and a pregnancy to a job loss.

Pregnant teacher fired over sabbatical dispute

The Pittsburgh area board fired Mrs Hill after a pregnancy became known. Duda claimed she should have notified the board, requested maternity leave, and canceled the sabbatical, while she said she fulfilled sabbatical terms. The board fined about $3,000 and upheld the firing on a 2-1 vote.

Red Chinese Clash With London Police
