Prosecution Of Election Frauds May Bring New Law
Raleigh August 29 The North Carolina State Election Board plans to seek legislation to shift prosecution of election law violations to the state department of justice or attorney general. Chairman W B Joyner said the board would prepare bills for the next general assembly. The board also noted inability to pursue Davidson county irregularities under existing law after a grand jury failed to return indictments. Joyner cited past violations in Polk and Graham counties without prosecutions. Governor Cherry attended a meeting on the proposed program, and he warned there may be difficulty in getting the act through the assembly.
