Reward Raised to 50000 in Cape Cod Mail Robbery

Postmaster General J Edward Day increased the reward to 50000 for solving the 15 million Cape Cod mail robbery. He testified to a House subcommittee that Congress will fund the amount for this case and cited misinterpreted police coverage and prior currency runs as factors in the bold theft. Wakefield man confesses Lumberton slaying of Boston youth

The FBI reports Arthur R. King, 23, of Wakefield admitted killing Carl Schirmer Jr., 22, of Wellesley, Massachusetts, whose body was found Aug 8 in a Lumberton ditch. King said he hitchhiked in Florida, killed the operator, dumped the body and drove the car to Bracketville, Texas.

State taxes special intelligence unit proposed by Revenue

Revenue Commissioner W A Johnston urged the Advisory Budget Commission to fund a special intelligence unit to find tax evaders. The $51 676 annual cost for 1963 65 would include a supervisor four agents an attorney and two stenographers. The unit would focus on willful tax violations mainly income tax and aim to raise more money than it costs.

Easterly Wave Intensifies Near Jacksonville

The Weather Bureau reports an easterly wave in the tropical Atlantic has developed a weak circulation around a low pressure center about 100 miles east of Jacksonville Florida. Winds of 25 to 35 mph observed in the eastern semicircle with small craft warnings from Jacksonville to Wilmington North Carolina. rough seas and above normal tides along Georgia and Carolinas with showers and squalls.
