The church holds a distinctive role in every community shaping life and guiding families toward peace and spiritual security. It notes churches welcome all to services and fellowship, stressing religion as the path to a meaningful life in any town or rural area.
In 1859 the church voted to move to High Point and in 1860 the current site at 317 North Main Street was bought in the name of the High Point Missionary Baptist Church. The church later became Salem Street Baptist Church in the 1880s before adopting the name First Baptist Church in 1904. Thirty six ministers have served the congregation and guided its leadership.
