The Democrats added four more candidates bringing their total to 12 for eight City Council posts. With the filing deadline near, Republicans held a huddle to find six more nominees as Doris Lindsay filed late, one of four prior contenders. Four Democratic hopefuls will be cut in the Sept. 27 primary.

Debbie Stout seven earned a trip to Las Vegas to appear on the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon after a Brunswick Lanes bowl-a-thon. Her mother learned of the award Thursday evening and debated flying versus driving for Debbie, who had never flown. Sponsors pledged pennies to dimes per pin as Debbie bowled three games to determine amounts.
