High gasoline tax blamed for slowing car registrations

The Carolina Motor Club official, GC W Roberts, argues combined state and federal gasoline taxes totaling seven cents a gallon reduce automobile registrations more than license costs. He cites a 45 000 drop in 1932 registrations from 1931 and a 100 000 decline since 1929, estimating gasoline taxes lose the state up to about 3 million yearly.
