A Pa judge took under advisement a bid by District Attorney Edmund Dinis of Massachusetts to obtain an autopsy on Mary Joe Kopechne's body. The move could end hopes of presenting autopsy results at her Edgartown inquest set for Sept. 3. Kopechne drowned on Chappaquiddick Island after a car driven by Senator Edward Kennedy plunged off a bridge. She is buried in Larksville. The defense argued lack of Pennsylvania jurisdiction since no crime occurred there. The judge will rule within 48 hours on the motion to dismiss and on scheduling further hearings.
A federal court halted the newly formed Scotland Neck city school system from opening this week, ruling its constitutionality unresolved. The judge ordered Halifax County to propose a desegregation plan by Oct. 1 as part of a broader review of three city units and the Halifax freedom of choice plan.

Fifteen Iraqis were executed at dawn in Baghdad for spying for the United States and Israel. Two Jews among them were civilians, with nine civilians hanged in the central prison, and a police commissioner and five soldiers executed by firing squad. All were tried and sentenced in secret sessions this past week.
In rural Horry County South Carolina a 15 year old pregnant girl using a pistol then a shovel killed Marty Weavil 54 after he had killed her husband James Buffkin 27. Authorities say murder charges will be filed against Mrs. Buffkin. Both men were dead at the scene and the teen was released to her family.
