Officials from the State Department of Labor opened an inquiry into the Badin North Carolina explosion at the Carolina Aluminum plant that killed seven workers and injured four. Inspectors said five men died at once and two more died later. the blast occurred during maintenance between high tension lines.
Nineteen Bellanca built monoplanes were shipped from the Wilmington Marine Terminal to Shanghai China Monday the terminal reported.

George W. Coan announced steps to replace five WPA district headquarters with twelve area officers in North Carolina. In Reidsville North Carolina an automobile overturned near Ruffin killing Elizabeth two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs George Myers of Richmond Virginia. Injured were Mrs Myers her sister in law Miss Eula Myers her niece Miss Marjorie Allred and two other children John and Patrick. All were taken to a hospital.
President Roosevelt approves 117 Public Works Administration projects totaling 14.25 million dollars in grants for state legislatures funded works. Projects include university and college buildings in North and South Carolina, dormitories, hospital additions, and a penitentiary, with construction estimated at 31.68 million dollars. Meanwhile, a separate North Carolina hunt for two escaped convicts intensifies as fingerprints link the pair to the homicide of State Highway Patrolman George Penn. warrants issued for Payne and Wash Turner.
Meredith College trustees announce Dr Harry Cooper of Ottawa Kansas has been named music department dean succeeding Leslie P Spelman who resigns. Cooper served nine years as music dean at Ottawa University and begins September 7. Spelman becomes organ professor at the University of Redlands California.
The search for Grade A prisoners Charlie Huffman of Winston-Salem and Thomas W. McAllister of Rockmart Georgia continued today after their escape from Caledonia prison farm yesterday. Huffman had a 10 to 12 year term for injuring property with explosives in Davidson county and McAllister a five to seven year sentence for breaking and entering.
Exper ts report in Asheville North Carolina that Senator Robert R Reynolds of North Carolina believes President Roosevelt will call a social congressional session around November. The statement came during a special session in Asheville dated August 25.
Two cars crashed head on mid bridge on the Yadkin river route near Mocksville yesterday injuring seven people. Names include Frances Warner Albion Michigan Ralph Clark Albion Charlotte Taylor Durham Perry Fannie Johnson Marshall Ross Rankin Pa and a Johnson of McKeesport.
Sam Bruno faced an either 100 dollar fine or 60 days in jail after being convicted on two counts for cruelty actions involving a balky ox and a cow. The August 25 report notes the charges and plea outcomes in S&L County.

Authorities say the killing was a robbery and that Quesenbury was found with a NC farmer's car and cash. He was arrested in Beckley West Virginia on a minor charge. Patrick authorities plan an early trial if indicted next month.
Bradford Pa August 25 Black Gold spurted today from the first gusher in 20 years in the Bradford oil field near the site of the first strike a half century ago. Veterans aimed to cap the $7 000 a day flow as a 60 foot derrick stood and oil poured at 100 to 110 barrels per hour. Crude oil traded at 2 85 a barrel. Oldtimers called it the first gusher since 1917 and a highlight in the field s history.
