American and Irishman Using Similar Tactics

AP Religion Writer George W Cornell reports on Rev. Ian Paisley and his Irish counterpart using parallel tactics to combat Catholic influence in Northern Ireland. The piece notes Paisley's founding of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster in 1951 and outlines sectarian tensions, civil rights battles, and leadership roles affecting Protestants and Catholics in the region. It cites Paisley's claims of controlling forces of popery and details his wife’s imprisonment in Northern Ireland, with context on demographics and government control.

Joshua and the Promised Land Obedience Theme

Ramsey surveys Joshua as a new generation takes possession of Canaan after 38 years of doubt. Joshua, chosen to lead, allocates land with deputies amid initial contentions. He warns of blessings for obedience and danger of disobedience, recalling God’s faithfulness and promises.

Joshua’s farewell at Shechem and covenant renewal

The account recounts Joshua’s leadership and the Israelite conquest of Canaan. Miracles at the Jordan River preceded the entry into the land, followed by territorial allotments and a covenant renewal at Shechem.
