Southern Railway to build four mile switching yard in Davidson County
Southern Railway has purchased all but one parcel for a 340 acre switching yard between Linwood and the Yadkin River in Davidson County. The yard, the only one of its kind in the Carolinas or Virginia, will use computer aided train assembly for shipment along the Eastern Seaboard. Initial plans show four miles of track from the Yadkin River, with final land deals pending aluminum company parcels. Construction cost is now estimated at 40 million dollars, up from 20 million, as the company trims expenses during a recession.
