North Carolina reported 139 million dollars in industrial development in the first half of the year, the state's largest six month total. The Commerce and Industry Division cited 288 new and expanded plants and over 16 600 new jobs with 50 million dollars in payroll, compared with 106 million, 263 plants, 16 895 jobs and 57 million payroll in the first half of 1959.

In Havana suburb a Roman Catholic priest was wounded by police while protecting youths at the first National Catholic Youth Congress. Six Catholic youths were beaten and detained in Las Villas province during clashes with a pro Communist group. The priest, Rev.
