Henderson Warns Uncontrolled Food Prices May Jump 30 Percent

Washington August 22 price administrator Leon Henderson warned that if the June 15 to July 15 rate of increase continued, foods not under OPA controls could rise about 30 percent over the next year. He noted a 25 percent rise in uncontrolled prices from mid-June to mid-July, versus smaller changes for controlled foods. He cited labor statistics and warned of a potentially destructive effect on family budgets. The note about silk cocoons appears as a non sequitur.
