Five Killed In Train Collision In Darien Conn

Five people died in a head on collision between a Stamford bound commuter train and an empty southbound electric train near Darien Connecticut. Thirty five injured were treated and three hospitalized as rescuers freed Edward May who was trapped for hours. The crash happened at about 835 p m with blame placed on the Stamford train failing to pull into a siding for single track passage.

24-Foot Nude Is Taken Down

In downtown Chicago a 24 foot high nude mural on a construction shed drew mixed reactions as pedestrians watched and traffic slowed. Phillip Gross, owner of the remodeling firm, commissioned the piece to decorate scaffolding but ordered it removed after public uproar and a police call.

Czechs protest on anniversary of invasion in Prague

Police and riot troops used tear gas and night sticks to break up a 50,000 strong protest in Wenceslas Square on the first anniversary of the Soviet invasion. Two dead, many wounded, and more than 320 arrested as crowds protested for several days with horn blasts and marches led by Czech citizens including supporters of Dubcek.
