Dixiecrats win first round in ballot contest

In Raleigh Judge W C Harris of Wake County Superior Court ordered the State Elections Board to place the States Rights Democrats on the ballot. The ruling found the board's petition denial August 3 unreasonable and set the stage for moving to the state supreme court.

Washington Aug 21 The House un American Activities Committee moved to issue a subpoena for J Peters described as a former head of the communist underground. Peters faces deportation proceedings and possible immunity talks as committee aims to verify Chambers testimony linking former federal officials to the underground. Two Rock Hill Residents Die In Colorado Auto Crash

In Colorado on U S highway 85 a head on collision killed S S Carpenter age about 60 from Rock Hill South Carolina Sonia Caldwell nine also from Rock Hill and Alma Bretey thirty of Fort Morgan Colorado. Three others in the car were injured including Leslie May Mitchum twenty five with a fractured shoulder. Merman Mitchum nineteen and Wesley Bretey thirty five sustained lighter injuries.
