President Eisenhower summoned Secretary Dulles to the White House to discuss foreign aid funds and the American Syrian crisis. Hagerty said the luncheon would address foreign aid legislation and related matters as tensions with Syria rise.
Rainfall across North Carolina eased drought in many areas. Officials say tobacco, corn, peanuts, hay, and pastures will benefit, with leaf still in fields in northern counties maturing for better harvest and reduced green color in cured tobacco. Roy R. Workmen resumed efforts to recover three construction men killed when an explosion ripped through a 6250 foot water tunnel under Lake Ontario.
