U S Bayonets Made Shorter And Better
ASHTABULA Aug 19 The Army unveiled a redesigned 10 inch bayonet for U S soldiers, replacing the 16 inch blade. The change saves 363 tons of high carbon steel in 1943 and 560 tons in 1944, aiding close quarters combat and rapid handling in Solomons and Tunisia. Lieutenant Colonel T H Eickhoff said the blade is sword like and versatile for stabbing or cutting.
