Southern Bell seeks 65 million rate hike in North Carolina
Southern Bell filed for a 65.16 million rate increase in North Carolina claiming inflation has eroded earnings since the last rise over a year ago. If approved, one party residence rates rise 60 cents and business lines 1.20 dollars monthly. NC AG Edmisten calls the request astounding and says the utilities will be scrutinized. The filing includes 11.5 million from settlements with other carriers and 53.7 million from direct Bell customers, plus extended evening discounts for certain hours.
