Hope Builds For Southside Slum Renewal Efforts Rise

Ray Hubbard reports optimism grows that High Point Southside slum clearance funds will accelerate. Federal action in Congress creates a new Community Development program, merging seven grants into a block grant, with tentative High Point funding around 3 to 4 million annually. City officials plan interim Model Cities and urban renewal funding to speed Southside work, including a 500,000 dollar extension and a 15 to 20 million overall investment for 150 acres of housing and business clearance.

Betty Ford and the breakfast myth of presidential life

A reflective column celebrates Betty Ford's poise amid media curiosity about President Ford's breakfast routines. The piece argues the insistence on a president’s morning habits ignores personal choice and shared family life, praising Mrs. Ford for her calm defense of privacy and suggesting true liberty is personal, not performative.
