Sink Nerve Gas Ship LeBaron Russell Briggs Off Florida
Navy and Army crews scuttled the World War II freighter LeBaron Russell Briggs off Cape Kennedy displacing 12 540 rockets of GE nerve gas and one land mine VX. Water flooded the hold and the ship sank to the disposal area 283 miles east of Cape Kennedy, taking four to six hours to vanish beneath the waves.
