Engineers Use Odd Gadgets In Search For Comfort
At Convair's Riding Comfort Laboratory in San Diego five devices simulate a five year seat life in one week. The dynamic cycler tests cushions with simulated passenger weight, while the multiple indentor measures thickness and spring rate. The ridometer films turning and twisting on a vibration table to gauge comfort and shock isolation. Data links to passenger interviews and expert input to design cushions with minimal indenting and maximum resiliency.
