Divorced Wife Jailed in Death of Husband in Illinois
ROCKFORD ILL Aug 15 A penny box of matches a porcelain wash basin and a quart of gasoline supposedly used to burn Earl Hanson to death led to the arrest of his divorced wife May 38. Authorities say gasoline was poured from the basin onto Hanson in his car ignited with a match and the killer fled as flames engulfed him. Hanson’s body and car burned after he returned his daughter to his mother’s home. Mrs Hanson admitted likely murder but claimed innocence and said someone with a grudge did it. She bought the matches and gasoline and says the basin waterer was used for chickens. The basin and gasoline disappeared from a shed where the car had been stored. The match box and basin were found near the body. Her hair and eyebrows were singed. State’s Attorney Nash will present evidence to the October grand jury. The 12 year old daughter found the fire from a window. (Continued on Page 17.)
