Market sags amid rail strike fears and treaty talks
The stock market moved lower in afternoon trading as revived rail strike fears and a looming August 2 deadline for a word rules dispute weighed on stocks. The Dow Jones averaged 711.60 at noon, rails and industrials led losses, while Chrysler and other automakers showed small gains. Separate reports cover discussions on the limited test ban treaty with remarks by Seaborg and comments from McNamara signaling the need for atmospheric testing related to antimissile systems, amid Senate ratification debates.
