Old Schooner Levi n Marvel Rends Chesapeake Bay Storm
A 128 foot three masted schooner the Levin J Marvel sank after a hurricane like storm in Chesapeake Bay near North Beach Maryland. Ten dead four missing were reported and thirteen rescued by firefighters police national guardsmen and volunteers. The vessel built in 1891 carried fertilizer lumber and tourists and had been deemed too small for required inspections. Survivors described a fierce sea and rapid capsize as two rescuers ferried people from wreckage in a 14 foot boat.
