In Anniston Alabama state troops moved into Calhoun county as a Negro suspect in the shooting of three white possemen was jailed in Birmingham. Patrols spread across the area amid threats and white and Black residents faced a tense standoff with reports of arson and ongoing violence.
An explosion at Grainger Brothers Wholesale in Lincoln Nebraska injures K Grainger and three employees and traps at least six others under debris in a three story brick building. Rescue teams and ambulances respond as two groups reach hospitals and crews search the basement and banana room of the refrigerating area.
Police detained George Hackler and two unnamed men in connection with injuries to 16 year old Sammie Rudd after he was struck by a car on Wise street near Park and Tate streets about 9 PM. Witnesses say the car did not stop. Hackler claims he rode in the car but denies driving. Authorities plan to charge all three with roles in the crime. Rudd was taken to Burrus Memorial hospital.
In LeGrange Georgia a birthday party for three Colquitt children honored by 42 candles on the cake. Elsie Mae is 16, Lucille 14, and the third age 12, all sharing the same birth date.

Dr. Clinton Wunder accused Dr. F E B Townsend of selling the pension organization down the river to Coughlin and Lemke. The shakeup saw Wunder Kiefer and Parker dismissed for inefficiency and unsatisfactory conduct, announced by Gilmour Young, national secretary.

In Buncombe county North Carolina Solicitor said Martin Moore a six foot three black youth would face trial next Wednesday for the murder of Helen Clevenger in a hotel room on July 16. Following a Supreme Court Scottsboro decision, judges included several Negro names on the jury list. A psychiatrist examination for Moore was requested by his defense. The trial starts the term beginning Monday. rewards for the conviction were discussed but not disclosed. Authorities said a gun used in the killing was found at Moore's home after a tip from Banks Taylor.

County officers raided the Frank Davis filling station on Greensboro road and recovered 46 pints of bottled liquor buried in a three compartment galvanized container. Deputies C L Gray and W L Wireless led the operation and a warrant was issued for Frank Davis.
