Fireproof Trees Now All the Rage
South Carolina state forester H A Smith says fireproof red alder trees will be distributed to farmers and landowners to curb fires. About 600,000 seeds will yield 50,000 saplings grown at Camden nursery and distributed across the state within four to five years. The mature trees and their fireproof leaves will resist ground and forest fires as they shed foliage that also resists burning.
