Notable Local Oddities and Scandals Skewered
Forrest Dates reviews a mix of local absurdities and small-town news. He lampoons the Jaycees removing hootchie-kootchie shows, reports a failed motorcycle jump that killed rider and bike, notes a gorilla sighting at Asheboro, laments the Ramseur Prowler’s continued rock-throwing, and jests about the Women’s Temperance Union and a long-disposed body found after 18 years. The piece weaves humor with sharp local color and July-style satire.
