Nixon Urges Stepped Up Attacks In Viet Nam

Nixon calls for intensified air and sea attacks on North Viet Nam until Communist leaders halt aggression in South Viet Nam. He proposes an American aid committee for North Viet Nam, says coalition with Communists and neutralization of South Viet Nam would reward aggression. He warns time is running out as Russia and China may reconcile.

Fire damages Sumter Daily Item Building in predawn blaze

Sumter South Carolina fire destroyed the newspaper's newsroom, advertising department, business offices and photo units. The blaze began about 2 30 a m, was fought for about 90 minutes, and caused unknown damage estimates. The press area and composing room survived. Presses had previously been moved during prior incidents. the paper insured and plans to publish today. Hubert D Osteen Jr publisher and his father also named in the staff.
