From Hitler Youth to Marine Corporal at Camp Lejeune
Karl Otto Riech, a 23 year old Marine corporal with the Second Marine Division, recalls his 1943 Hitler Youth service in Germany and his journey to the United States. He immigrated in 1950, worked as a Detroit carpenter, met his wife in 1951, and joined the Marine Corps in 1952. He completed recall training on the West Coast before joining Camp Lejeune.
