Man Moves From Slum To Modern Thomasville Home
George McCant, 73, displaced from a condemned Church Street hovel, moves into a federally financed three room apartment at the Thomasville Church Homes project off Jacob Street. He left a two room, waterless, electrified-less dwelling infested by rats for water lights a stove a tub and a refrigerator in his new unit. Local officials led by housing inspector Bobby Hall coordinated the move with social services help and furniture ready from their offices. McCant, once a gravedigger and laborer, lives alone and awaits meals as he adapts to the modern conveniences and the question of food.
