Housing Is Problem For Institutions
Raleigh Aug 9 One of the biggest problems confronting state hospital and educational institutions is housing for staff members and other employees. The issue is acute especially at institutions away from towns with limited affordable housing. Clarence Stone says if the state provided all requested living accommodations it would be the biggest real estate operator in the country. From UNC Chapel Hill to Pembroke State College the story is similar. Officials note housing affects ability to attract professional and laborer staff and that some institutions have eased the problem by providing houses. The next legislature must decide on whether the state should expand housing or adjust policy to address the shortage.
