Battlefield清_engagement report degrades into fragments
Defied Morpheus there was a dead Jap sprawled in every 25 square yard area. There was a blasted cave entrance every 10 yards. Every marine in the battalion could have owned a Jap rifle if he cared for one. Scores of enemy mortars and machine guns were captured. A full of radio equipment and medical supplies were taken. Vatican Holds Six German Prisoners of War
The Vatican, the world’s only sovereign state without an army, hosts six German prisoners of war. Five soldiers and one officer escaped Allied camps after Rome fell and sought refuge in the Vatican. They live in Pontifical Gendarmes barracks, receive gendarme rations, and are walked daily with no contact with the outside world until repatriation is approved. Baron Ernest Weizhacker, former German ambassador to the Holy See, lives there as a civilian.
