North Carolina parties plan court tests on ballot access
Two new parties the Rights Democrats and the Ives plan court tests of state election boards over ballot access for the November general election. The board ruled new parties must file 10 000 poll signatures of qualified voters 90 days before the election. Progressives were certified while the other petitions totaling 18 000 names were not checked for signer affiliation changes.

Bald Dies At 66 Fathered Early Bell Experiments
Frederick Walker Bald, 66, longtime associate of Alexander Graham Bell in early scientific experiments, died today in Baddeck Nova Scotia. He began his work in 1908 at Hammond and contributed to foundational telecommunication research.

Motion For Nonsuit In VPL Case Allowed
In Thomasville Recorder Howard Steed allowed a nonsuit in Luther E. Osborne's whiskey selling case after evidence showed six pints of taxpaid whiskey in possession and no sale evidence. Osborne was arrested July 24 at Pines service station on National Highway. Various other local cases included fines for drunkenness, assaults, and speeding with several hearings continued. The city also noted theater seat occupancy among major U S cities.

Hickory Reports Fourth Death In Polio Epidemic
The fourth death and forty fourth polio case in Catawba county were reported. Keith Kiser ten year old son of Mr and Mrs A Kiser of Conover died after being brought to a Charlotte hospital following illness at Myrtle Beach. New cases include Sandra Rebecca Sides eight months old of Hickory route three admitted to Grace hospital Morganton and Eugene Petty eight year old of Hickory route one moved to orthopaedic hospital Gastonia. A Burke county case is Bessie Bollinger three years old daughter of A C Bollinger of Icard hospitalized in Morganton.
