Old Way Tobacco Harvest Persists In Tech Driven Fields
Jeff Cohen reports from High Point area farms where John A Hall and Hubie Stafford still rely on wood and gas bulk barns for curing tobacco. Hall, facing uneven 63 acres due to lack of rain, may pull by hand and finish in a gas heated bulk barn. Stafford keeps a wood fired bulk barn for his acre and a half, awaiting yellowing and a week of drying, noting oil is easier but wood cheaper.
