Tobacco Prices Up By $4

Opening day average on flue cured tobacco in the South Carolina Belt rose to 3.96 per hundredweight, up from last year’s 40.78. Belt markets sold 9,240,693 pounds with an average of 44.74, SC markets 4,769,348 pounds at 46.93, NC markets 4,471,345 pounds at 42.52. Second day opened with optimism as buyers and crowds watched prices range 43 to 51 per hundredweight.
