Medicare Hospital Care Plan for the Aged
Medicare will cover up to 94 days of hospital care per spell of illness, with $40 deductible and $16 per additional day after 60 days. Blood costs first three pints are paid by the patient unless donors replace them. Coverage includes psychiatric and TB hospitals, with limits on total psychiatric hospital days and special rules for Christian Science sanatoriums. Outpatient tests and diagnostic services are included with small copayments. Deductibles run through 1980s with annual possible adjustments. Certification and utilization reviews apply for Social Security payments. psychiatric and TB hospitals require additional approvals by Joint Commission on Hospitals.
