Earlier AP reports said such action seemed likely. Sweden had permitted transit of German troops on leave to or from Norway provided they carry no arms.

Two Children Die in Overnight Flood at Sutton West Virginia

In a flash flood that swept Braxton and Gilmer counties, two children were found dead while 15 others remained missing. Police and Braxton Central publisher J Holt Byrne reported the bodies of Robert Queen, 10, and his one year old sister Alma recovered near Rollins about two miles from Heaters.

American Sicily Casualties Totals 6741 Through July 22

Secretary of War Stimson announced American casualties in Sicily through July 22 totaled 6741 with 3870 wounded 2370 missing and SOS killed. He called the losses moderate given terrain and said British figures were not greatly higher. He noted further allied gains in all theaters in the last week.

Sweden halts German troop moves to Norway Aug 15 20

German E-Boat Flotilla Attacked Off Calais

The Roma, launched in June 1940, was previously reported damaged in a raid on Spezia on June 5 with Vittorio Veneto and Littorio. Impero, launched in November 1939, had been delayed by material shortages and possible commissioning uncertainty.

The capture of Catania, Sicily’s second largest city, secures the eastern defensive flank for the Allies. American Planes Bomb Burma Railways and Airfields

United States Liberator and Mitchell bombers hit Japanese railroad bases at Chanbyuzayat and attacked rolling stock and tracks at Wetlet Moksogyon Kinu and Thazi in central Burma.
