Mothers-to-Be Have Right to Work, Ruth Millett Says
Ruth Millett argues that married women should not lose jobs when pregnant and cites a Pennsylvania case where a dental hygienist was kept from work due to pregnancy. The county court ruled pregnancy is not incompetency and urged encouraging married women to have children while remaining employed if medically fit. She asserts women are needed in work and that bias against expectant mothers is outdated.

Nationwide listing urged for women in war work
Washington August 5 LPI authorities say a nation wide occupational registration of women may be added to war service legislation. A manpower official suggested one in three or four housewives aged 18 to 44 could be needed to boost production. McNutt put 5 million more women in jobs by end of 1943. Detroit plans a local registration next week as a possible model for a national count, with 80 000 of 650 000 area women expected to work in war plants by November and more in 1943. WPA says 13 900 000 of 53 000 000 employed are women and 40 percent of May-June new jobs went to women. War nursery schools funded by WPA total at least 6 million nationwide.
