Rome reports Italy’s army revives plans for Africa with immediate engagement seen in support of the Italo Ethiopian conciliation commission. Thomasville reports Campbell Holmes a local Sanctified Holy minister was bitten on the right hand by a rattlesnake he handled before a large Concord street church gathering. He refuses medical aid though his arm swelled and worsened, and congregants prayed through the night. The snake was captured by the owner.
Three people died and a fourth injured when a car crashed into a high tension pole on the Oxford highway near Durham. Harvey Gatchet 16 of Portland Oregon wife Myrtle 35 and daughter Barbara 3 died electrocuted. Lou Archer of New York injured. The Gatchets were en route to Greensboro from Henderson after a vaudeville performance by a 16 member troupe.
North Carolina farmers in 2084 saw car ownership rise seven percent, while urban areas with populations above ten thousand grew nine percent, according to AP dispatch from Raleigh dated August 5.
The Georgia estate department of agriculture reported tobacco sales totaling nine million pounds at 20.84 cents per pound across 4 cent warehouses in the state during the first two days of the ant iem season opened August 1. Garland Bagby noted the flat week’s 6,066,738 pounds sold at 21.62 cents.
