A ten or twelve year old named Southern was playing with a leather strap when it caught in a cog wheel at Caldwell Hairston’s mill near Walnut Cove. He was thrown around at high speed, breaking limbs and injuring the body. doctors report no hope for recovery. Other items note an August quake in St Louis, Charlotte free letter delivery, cotton sale in Gastonia, and a debt assignment for Col Charles R. Jones of the Charlotte Observer.
