From Flamingo to Debates and Divorces in Showbiz Buzz

In a sprawling nightlife column, Lee Mortimer threads through New York gossip on Joey Adams and AGVA, Maureen O Hara tangling with Jack Douglas, and a wave of star marriages and separations. Reports note Christine Bourne, Linda Somers, Debra Kerr, and Tony Franciosa among others, with political jabs at Juvenile Delinquency plans and a Deputy Commissioner tie-in. Central weather hints at hot muggy days in Central Park as the scuttlebutt swirls across agencies, studios, and clubs.

Raleigh Durham weather station gains national role

A revamped Weather Bureau will in late October or November assign Raleigh Durham airport to cover North and South Carolina. Charles B. Carney announced that the Raleigh bureau will prepare statewide and regional forecasts, issue coastal warnings from Cape Hatteras to Savannah, and produce five day forecasts for both states. Previously Washington handled South Carolina and Miami issued coastal warnings. Fidel Castro reportedly has colon cancer and has lost weight as turmoil grows at the palace.

Overeating Kills Elephant At Turin Zoo

A 12 year old Indian elephant named Jumbo, once weighing deflated after shedding 200 pounds, died at Turin Zoo last week from heart trouble linked to obesity. The elephant had been attempting to retrace Hannibal’s Alpine route, aiming to cross the Clapier Pass from France to Italy. Zoo officials noted Jumbo’s attempt to recreate the trek as the cause of strain that led to death.
