Navy planes and destroyers scour 5000 square miles west of Colon for the Pan American Grace Sikorsky amphibian believed carrying fourteen to sixteen aboard. No fuselage found, but debris includes mail bundles and an ice cream container as teams monitor depths up to 200 fathoms.
Chicago August 4 Assistant State's Attorney Wilbert F Crowley said a 30 month old boy believed kidnapped from the Horst home was found today living with John and Lydia Regan who claimed him as their own. The Regans admitted taking the child as Mrs Horst screamed for him back. They denied a ransom call. The baby, born January 6 1935 to Mrs Regan, was reportedly placed with Dr John A Rose who sought a wealthier patron. The case involves a mixed up birth and custody trail.
Associated Press reports continuous aerial bombardment has routed weak Chinese concentrations and opened a path for Japan’s march toward North China. Pamphlets claim Northern Hopeh occupies and central government forces stalled. Peiping quiet. residents return home amid fears of air raids.
Tyrrell county will decide September 18 whether stores selling alcoholic beverages may be listed there. Tyrrell becomes the 19th North Carolina county to vote on local liquor control since the 1937 act. Granville is dry, with others choosing stores. Stokes and Alamance vote August 17.
Superintendent I G Greer announced a voluntary quarantine at Mills Home after 11 year old F C Proctor developed a definite infantile paralysis case. Homecoming day next Sunday is canceled and church groups or individuals will not be admitted until the quarantine ends.

STATESVILLE N C August 4 Bruce O Kelly a Negro began a seven to ten year prison term today for second degree burglary. He pleaded guilty yesterday to breaking into Mrs Floyd Hollars bedroom while her husband was away. She testified the man fled when she screamed.

In Warren Colorado Judge Lynn Griffith sentenced four of eight men arrested in steel strike disturbances to one to twenty years in prison for possession and control of explosives. Rutherfordton reports the drowning of Roy Wilkie 14 son of James Wilkie of Cliffside after he fell from a boat in a mill pond yesterday. Funeral services were held today.
A national labor relations examiner will hear testimony in Charlotte on August 19 regarding charges of discrimination and intimidation by CIO affiliated workers at the No Hosiery mill.
Mayor Dr C 8 Grayson recommends reestablishing a city board of health in an advisory role to work with the health department. City Attorney G H Jones will draft an ordinance defining duties for the board and for the Parks and Juvenile commission. Grayson plans four local doctors and one layman, with council to vote next Wednesday.
