Raleigh August 3 The state board of education has lifted for one year the rule requiring classified school principals to have at least one year of teaching experience before full pay. Temporary salary increments allow hirees to draw the approved principal salary regardless of classroom experience.

London August 3 The Paris radio said allied authorities were not convinced that Adolf Hitler is dead and were keeping a vigilant watch, particularly in the Heidelberg area. Heidelberg lies 110 miles west of Nuremberg in the American occupation zone.
The guardians report that Christopher Smith Reynolds, 12, son of Z Smith Reynolds, required 83 333 28 for education maintenance and support in the last year. The Safe Deposit and Trust company detailed expenses paid to Mrs Holmes and 5 192 72 spent on his 300 000 estate near Stamford Connecticut as part of the guardianship filing.
Fresh labor disputes push the national strike total past 50 000 with about 10 000 added in the last day. New walkouts occurred in Philadelphia Wilkes Barre Pa and St Louis. Exide plants in Philadelphia idled 3500 workers in an unauthorized strike. Vulcan Iron Works Wilkes Barre saw 1000 employees vote to stay home. St Louis Car Co halted production of amphibious tanks and street cars with 1100 strikers over vacation pay. About 1000 Jersey workers at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
North Carolina Labor Commissioner Forrest Shuford reports a wartime surge in minor employment. In six months of 1945 more than 11 000 certificates were issued for under 17s, with manufacturing rising to over 66 percent of certif icated work and a push for minors to return to school after the war.
Pierre Laval testified at Marshal Petain's treason trial in Paris that he spoke of overthrowing the republic as a joke while describing acts that gave Petain dictatorial power. He denied fascist or Nazi ties, insisting he loved the republic amid disclosures of wartime French politics and collaboration with Mussolini since 1936.
