Industry Shattering Bottlenecks With Production
Frank MacMillan reports on wartime aircraft industry overcoming bottlenecks. Despite claims of shortages in engines, machine tools, aluminum, and magnesium, U S production surged. In six months, a fighter plane rolled off a U S line every two hours, totaling 7,423 aircraft, with 1941 projections far exceeding 1940 output. Engines bottleneck largely eliminated as automotive firms join Pratt & Whitney and Curtiss-Wright in ramping up.
