Williams accuses Reserve of favoring large banks
Former comptroller of the currency John Williams testifies before the congressional agricultural commission in Washington that Reserve banks charged 200 to 300 percent collateral and aided big banks while small cotton lenders faced ruinous rates. He cites a southern bank fined for high rediscount rates as evidence of injustices in progressive rate policies.

Guilford County Tobacco Outlook Sparks High Points
Special to The Enterprise. Wilmington Aug 8. Col Thomas Graham of Chadbourn Greensboro says the Greensboro High Point area offers the best tobacco crop in North or South Carolina though rains slow eastern harvests. He notes low prices stem from domestic buyers dominating sales, with Chadbourn tobacco selling for a penny a pound and buyers offering at most 26 cents per hundred. Still, Graham predicts Guilford county growers may set price records as domestic users push quality to compete for stronger demand.
