Berlin dispatch notes Hitler's takeover leverages Germany's war grievance and inflation era hardship to consolidate power. He appeals to the lower middle class and suppresses opposition, promoting the Organic State concept and Gleichschaltung under Goebbels's propaganda.
The 1933 General Assembly created the state housing commission to seek federal funds for limited dividend housing. J. M. Broughton of Raleigh was chosen chair with J. A. Jones as vice chair and M. E. Newsom as secretary. No salaries were set until receipts from fees arrive. Several applications, including Boylan Place redevelopment, were discussed but stalled by lack of state law.
Representatives of the cotton textile industry urged a processing tax on jute to offset the 4.2 cents per pound processing charge that became effective last mid year, arguing it would help cotton goods compete.
Frank Hepler asked The Enterprise to state that Tracy Tysinger was not a passenger in his vehicle during Friday's wreck near Thomasville. Tysinger was riding with a Mr. Beck in Tysinger's car at the time of the accident.
A dramatic raid on Pleas Moore's hotel room ended with Moore mortally wounding Officer Purgatory after firing on police who stormed the third floor. Moore, a traveling razor blade salesman, then slid to the second floor and attempted to pose as a band member before being captured. The Howard girl involved denied being in the room as charges were prepared.
