State Industrial Commission Rules Maximum $6000 Death Benefit

The North Carolina Industrial Commission, in a conference with the Insurance Commissioner and the Southeastern Compensation Rating Bureau, decided that the full $6,000 death or total disability benefit should be paid regardless of weekly wage. Earlier doubt over a graded 60 percent for 350 or 356 weeks prompted consideration of a scale. Insurers had been sold on the full amount, and the commission now plans to pay the maximum, with a test case possible for official interpretation. States vary between maximum and graded schemes.
