Thousands of North Vietnamese and Viet Cong units launched a broad assault across northern Cambodia aimed at Kompong Thom and Kompong Cham as U.S. B52 bombers struck supply depots in the Fishhook region. The fighting stretched from 35 to 80 miles northwest to north of Phnom Penh with heavy clashes reported.

Louis Lomax Dies In Auto Crash Near Santa Rosa
Renowned black writer and commentator Louis Lomax aged 47 died when his car overturned while attempting to pass another vehicle on a highway near Santa Rosa New Mexico. Lomax, a Hofstra University lecturer, was traveling during a West Coast tour. He left two children and a widow Robinette Lomax. Lomax was known for his critique of both black and white leadership and his role in interpreting the integration movement. He worked as a newspaperman from 1941 to 1958 and with Metromedia Broadcasting as a news commentator from 1964 to 1968.
