Flood Isolation Near Wayne Johnston Line in Neuse River
More than twenty families along the Wayne Johnston county line are isolated by Neuse River flood waters. They can leave by boat or high wheel tractor if needed, but most have not moved. The river crested near 14 feet at the area and about 20 feet at Smithfield, with forecasts of a slow fall and continued flooding downstream toward Goldsboro and Kanston. Wayne County health director Dr. Carl Hammer said no health threat is present but a watch is kept.
