The Mississippi flood crisis escalates as dynamite charges widen the levee breach fifteen miles below New Orleans to increase flood flow. A request for two more tons by engineer R B Kohnke was sent by motorcycle courier for immediate action.
The case concerns whether a magistrate may try criminal cases if he earns a fee from a conviction. John L Williams was fined for speeding and his appeal moves to the Greensboro criminal term. Motor club officials say the matter could reach the U S Supreme Court if needed.
Greensboro officials report the Presbyterian Young People's Life Work conference begins with over 200 delegates representing Orange and Winston Salem presbyteries. Rev Walter Getty opens with Answering God's Call as Miss Kate DuBose directs activities through Sunday including Rev Gypsy Smith and Dr Henry H Sweets speeches.
Warry A. Thomasson 19 and his brother Elmo 17 killed Mayor Joe Adams of West City on December 12 at the order of gang leader Charles Birger who paid them 50 dollars each to remove a rival harboring the Shel ion gang.

Los Angeles April 30 AP The estranged wife Lita Grey Chaplin seeks alimony as testimony reveals Chaplin's The Gold Rush grossed 2 225 million with 75 percent to Chaplin and a retroactive 1500 monthly alimony award from January 10. The hearing notes include his wardrobe and birthday party guest counts. She claims Chaplin's total wealth reaches 16 million dollars and cites a 250 000 annual film salary plus 10000 a month from community property.
President Coolidge weighed the Mississippi flood invitation today from Governors and Senator Harrison to visit the disaster zone. With Hoover in the flood area, a decision was not expected until Hoover returns.

James Ray of Pitcairn Aviation announced that a hangar will begin construction at the Friendship landing field within a week after a meeting with George M. Stansbury. Pitcairn will coordinate lumber and materials while concessions for a gasoline station cafe and drinks stand are arranged. The three cities will share lighting costs, and a Commerce Department representative will review the field and estimate costs within two weeks.

In Belzoni Mississippi a triple shooting left R E Adcock 40 head of a furniture store dead C C Rayburn 39 a carpenter possibly fatally injuring his wife before turning the gun on himself. Adcock's wounds are not thought fatal and Mrs Adcock was to be moved by boat to Yazoo City for hospital care as floodwaters hinder road access.
President Coolidge says funds beyond the $5,000,000 already asked for Mississippi flood relief will be needed from the American public. He opposes a special congressional session to address flood control and relief, noting treasury funds cannot be provided and Red Cross relies on contributions. Some senators support the session, others from flood areas oppose it.

W. W. Newsome, 63, died at his home in Yadkin county yesterday morning after a weeks long illness. He leaves a widow and five children including John and Wiley Newsome of High Point and Thomas Newsome of Yadkin county, plus two daughters Mrs. J. B. Bottoms and Mrs. R. L. Koonce of this city. Funeral services are set for Baltimore church in Yadkin county tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock.
Federal agents report capturing three airplanes used to smuggle aliens from Mexico into California after a gunfight left one aviator dead. Planes were seized on a highway near Los Angeles. Thomasson, from Pontiac Reformatory, pleaded guilty to murder. May or Adams sentenced to life. Birger gang connections loom as trial nears.
Mrs. Ruth Snyder plans to recount the murder of her husband Albert Snyder in Queens Village as the Snyder Gray trial resumes. She testified that her former lover Henry Judd Gray beat her husband with a sash weight after entering the home on March 19 and that she aided Gray in maintaining the burglars narrative to protect herself.
Preliminary services for Dr S Wes Trey Battle a prominent Asheville physician who died at Rex Hospital were planned for 4 pm in Christ Church chapel. The funeral party leaves Raleigh for Asheville where services will be held Sunday at 3 30 pm from All Souls church with interment in Riverside cemetery. Battle born August 4 1854 in West Bayville NC served ten years as a US naval officer and was national chairman of the Belgian relief commission during World War I receiving honors from Belgium.
DETROIT April 30 AP A hearing July 1 will set a date for a new trial in the $1,000,000 libel suit of Aaron Sapiro against Henry Ford and the Dearborn Independent. Federal Judge Fred M. Raymond announced at a conference with both sides present.
Smoldering ruins mark Arbuckle Mill at Arbuckle’s Landing as a forest fire roars through the Dismal Swamp area. Reports say the blaze stretched from north of Arbuckle’s Landing toward McPherson store near South Mills, with hope that rain and wind slowed it.
