A federal three judge panel issued a nationwide injunction blocking Georgia county unit based counting in the Democratic primary. The ruling cites the method as invidiously discriminatory and applies to the Sept. 12 contest. Governor Vandiver urged swift appeal to the Supreme Court.
At an Americans for Democratic Action convention in Washington, Leon Keyserling urged liberals to push for a policy of greater government spending on public services and a plan to achieve full employment and higher production. He said President Kennedy had adopted what he termed the same unsuccessful program as Eisenhower.
The AAUP recommends terminating all federal assistance to colleges and universities that maintain segregation. It also passed resolutions opposing censorship and abuse of disciplinary power. Two schools Alabama State College and South Dakota State College added to a list of institutions stifling academic freedom, Allen University removed, total 11 on list. The association, with 50 000 members and 715 chapters, met with about 422 delegates.
The spring Southern furniture market in High Point North Carolina opens doors at 2 PM and draws heavy buyer crowds from Friday through Monday. Industry leaders forecast a record year with 10 percent higher sales in 1962, while exhibitors report strong opening day activity and plans for July and August promotions.

Kennedy and Macmillan signaled readiness to consider East West summit diplomacy if productive, agreeing to maintain U S Soviet talks on German settlement. They discussed Berlin and disarmament and planned further Sunday talks with a joint statement delayed.

He ends lofty air of rocket mail and moves to consultative management with employees while facing a projected 826 million dollar deficit. Rate increases may offset red ink. federal pay raises loom. Protests from publishers over rate hikes persist.
The State Highway Commission said the long troubled Interstate 85 project between Durham and Greensboro should be completed by August 1. The final links near Burlington and Greensboro work areas are set to open in coming weeks, ending 15 years of traffic concerns. Chief planner James S. Burch framed the road’s history as a dramatic process with many involved parties and public comment.
New York Mayor Robert F. Wagner announced he will not seek the governorship this fall, saying he cannot abandon city duties. He said he discussed the matter with President Kennedy, who offered no pressure. Rockefeller reacted by noting the decision was Wagner’s, while Republican leader L Judson Morhouse suggested Wagner’s withdrawal clear the way for Rockefeller’s re election.
